Early access — SwotHub is currently in invite-only early access and is free to use. Subscriptions, adding money to an account, rewards paid to children and the prepaid card are not operating yet, and none of them can be bought or used in the app today. Sections 3, 4 and 8 describe how they will work once they are switched on. We will tell you before that happens.
1. Who this agreement is between
1.1 SwotHub is run by SwotHub Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16496842. "We" and "us" mean SwotHub Ltd.
1.2 This agreement is between us and you, the adult account holder. A child cannot enter into an agreement of this kind. Your child is shown their own house rules, written for children, when they set up their profile.
1.3 By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or over and that you are the parent or legal guardian of every child profile you create.
1.4 You are responsible for what happens on your account and on each child profile linked to it.
2. Who SwotHub is for
2.1 SwotHub follows the curriculum from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, which is roughly ages 7 to 16.
2.2 A child uses SwotHub only through a profile that you create and link to your account.
2.3 You should stay available to help, particularly with a younger child.
3. Subscriptions and payments
3.1 Subscription fees are charged to you as the account holder. Where you subscribe inside the app, payment is taken and managed by Apple or Google through your App Store or Google Play account.
3.2 Account top-ups are taken by our payment provider, Stripe.
3.3 Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You cancel through the App Store, Google Play or your payment provider, as applicable.
3.4 Refunds are handled in line with UK consumer law and the policy of the store or payment provider you used.
3.5 We do not store your full card details.
4. Money your child earns
4.1 Your child earns a reward by passing a quiz at the standard shown in the app. Whether a quiz is passed, and whether a reward is paid, is worked out automatically. It is not approved by you quiz by quiz.
4.2 You control the money going in. You choose the subscription, you make any top-ups, and you can pause earning on a profile at any time.
4.3 A balance held in SwotHub is not a bank account, a savings account, a deposit or an investment. It earns no interest and it is not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
4.4 We may withhold, reverse or correct a reward where a quiz was not completed properly, as described in section 8, or where there was a fault in the app. If we do, we will tell you why, and you can ask us to look at it again.
4.5 SwotHub is not a bank and must not be used to hold or move money for anyone else.
5. Ask CAM
5.1 Ask CAM is a chat feature powered by artificial intelligence. CAM is not a person and is not a teacher. Its answers can be wrong and should not be relied on as fact.
5.2 CAM is there for schoolwork and homework. It is designed not to give quiz answers.
5.3 CAM is not emergency help. In an emergency, call 999. Childline is free on 0800 1111.
5.4 There is a daily message limit on each child profile.
5.5 Ordinary chats are not stored. Messages are checked automatically for safety before CAM answers and again before an answer is shown.
5.6 We may withdraw access to CAM from a profile that is being used to test the limits of the feature.
5.7 Ask CAM is moderated by SwotHub. Chats are not shown to you. Section 7 explains why, and it is important that you read it.
6. Writing practice
6.1 Writing practice has two parts. The part where your child writes never pays a reward. The separate multiple-choice part pays in the same way as any other quiz.
6.2 Feedback on writing is guidance on technique. It is not a mark, a grade or a formal assessment.
6.3 Your child's written work is saved. You can read the work and the feedback your child was given.
6.4 Written work is checked automatically for safety. Where something in it is worth your attention, you will see a note alongside the work.
6.5 Written work is checked by an artificial intelligence supplier outside the United Kingdom. Our privacy notice says who our suppliers are and where they are.
6.6 We do not use your child's written work to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not permit our suppliers to do so.
7. Safety and safeguarding
7.1 We check what children write to us, both in Ask CAM and in writing practice, for signs that a child may be at risk.
7.2 Where something is flagged, a trained person at SwotHub reviews it.
7.3 Your child is told plainly, in their own house rules, that a real person may read what they write. We do not monitor children secretly.
7.4 Ask CAM chats are not shown to parents, including where a concern has been raised. This is deliberate. A child sometimes needs to say that they are not safe at home, and a child who believes a parent will read it will not say it. Our duty here is to the child.
7.5 Where a concern relates to your own household, we may act on it, including by contacting the appropriate authorities, without telling you first.
7.6 Where a concern is recorded we keep that record until the child's twenty-fifth birthday, and for longer if the police or another authority asks us to. Our privacy notice explains this.
7.7 A child's information belongs to the child. A parent does not automatically have the right to see it, and we will consider any request against the child's own interests before we answer it.
8. Fair play
Real money is paid on results, so results have to be honest. You agree that, on each child profile:
- only that child answers the questions;
- nobody else, and no software or automated tool, answers for them;
- questions and answers are not shared, copied or published;
- a child does not hold more than one profile;
- a fault in the app is reported to us rather than used.
Where we reasonably believe a reward was not properly earned, we may withhold or reverse it, pause earning on the profile, or close the account. We will tell you why. You can ask us to look again and a person will review it.
9. Automated decisions
9.1 Passing a quiz, and paying a reward for it, is decided automatically by the app.
9.2 Some of the checks that can withhold a reward also run automatically.
9.3 You can ask us to have a person review any automated decision that affects your child's rewards. Use the contact address in section 15.
10. Acceptable use
You must not:
- attempt to manipulate scores, rewards or referrals;
- share account access or link codes with anyone outside your household;
- submit harmful, offensive or unlawful content;
- interfere with the security, systems or data of the app;
- use SwotHub for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose, including money laundering, disguising the source of funds, or using someone else's payment method without their permission.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, or where we reasonably suspect fraud, abuse or unlawful activity.
11. Your information and your child's
11.1 We collect only what we need to run SwotHub.
11.2 We handle personal information under UK data protection law and follow the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code.
11.3 We do not sell personal information.
11.4 We use suppliers to run the app, check safety, send email and take payment. Some are outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Our privacy notice names them and says where they are.
11.5 You can ask us to delete your account and your children's information. We will do so, apart from anything the law requires us to keep and the safeguarding records described in section 7. There is a page explaining how at swothub.co.uk/delete-account.
11.6 Our privacy notice carries the full detail, including how long we keep things and how to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
12. Content and ownership
12.1 The content, branding, software and materials in SwotHub belong to SwotHub Ltd or its licensors. You may not copy, distribute or reuse them without our permission.
12.2 Your child's own written work belongs to your child.
13. Availability and responsibility
13.1 We work to keep SwotHub available, but we cannot promise that it will always be uninterrupted or free of errors.
13.2 SwotHub supports learning. It is not a replacement for school, a teacher, or professional advice of any kind.
13.3 We are responsible for loss that we cause you by breaking this agreement or by failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for loss of profit or business, because SwotHub is supplied for private and family use.
13.4 Nothing in this agreement limits our liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
13.5 Nothing in this agreement affects your legal rights as a consumer.
14. Changes to this agreement
14.1 We may change these terms. Where a change is minor, we will tell you in the app.
14.2 Where a change materially affects your rights, your child's safety, or how we handle your child's information, we will ask you to accept the new terms before you carry on using SwotHub.
14.3 If you do not want to accept a change, you can cancel, and we will refund the part of any subscription you have paid for and not used.
15. Ending this agreement, contact and law
15.1 You can close your account at any time in the app or by contacting us.
15.2 We may end this agreement by giving you reasonable notice, or immediately where you have seriously broken these terms.
15.3 For anything at all, including a request that a person reviews an automated decision, contact us at info@swothub.co.uk.
15.4 This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute.
